The mechanism of constructing the binary concepts of life and death in Sergey Yesenin’s poems and their dialectical unity

Abstract
This article uses the analytical basis of image schemas and conceptual metaphors to systematically examine the cognitive mechanisms and internal relationships of the unity of the binary concepts LIFE and DEATH in Yesenin’s poetry from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. It analyses the concepts LIFE and DEATH as expressed in eight of Yesenin’s poems. This interdisciplinary study corresponds to the research interests of philosophers, lexicologists and specialists in cognitive and emotional linguistics. While domestic and international scholars have expressed significant interest in the theme of life and death in Yesenin’s poetry, this study is the first to explore the dialectical relationship between these concepts within his works. Based on the opposition between life and death, the study formulates and substantiates a model of their relationship as a “dynamic unity in the natural cycle”, which constitutes its scientific novelty.
