Abstract. The paper focuses on the study of lexical and compositional markers of the poetic text of the orphic leitmotif. The paper defines the composition of a poetic text in terms of the intensity of emotional and event sequences. The orphic leitmotif is considered as a verbalization of the prototypical situation of ‘the stage of acceptance of the loss of a loved one’ in the form of an episode of a poem. An algorithm for the study of lexical units and linguocultural data is elaborated by using a combination of methods of directed sampling, componential, contextual, discourse, lexical and semantic, formal and comparative analysis, stylistic interpretation of poetic texts. These lexemes in a discursive context not only expand the structures of their meanings, but also mark shifts in linguistic and cultural codes, as well as in the types of speech of a poetic work. The data on comparative linguistic and semantic characteristics of the poetic text by A. Kochetkov The ballad of the smoky wagon and T. Hardy’s On the departure platform as a result of the lexical, and semantic analysis, were considered via such parameters as indirect nomination methods and systemic relationships between units of the lexical framework of the study. The results obtained make it possible to interpret orphic plots in literature from the perspective of semantics, lexicology and stylistics of the text.

Keywords: orphism, leitmotif, semantics, lexis, composition, lexical and compositional markers, prototypical situation, episode.
