The functional-pragmatic parameter of neologization of the beauty industry discourse

Abstract. The article focuses on the functional-pragmatic parameter of the neologization process of the modern beauty industry discourse based on the material of the English and Russian languages. The paper presents the concepts of the beauty industry discourse and the parameterization of its neologization process, including the three key parameters: thematic, structural-semantic and functional-pragmatic. The analysis of the selected parameters allows us to identify both the common features and the peculiarities in the process of the vocabulary updating of the two typologically different languages in the context of the discourse under study. According to the results obtained, the functional characteristics of English and Russian neologisms can be considered within the framework of a single functional paradigm. Based on the analysis of linguistic material, it is concluded that the primary function of neologisms in the English- and Russian-language discourse of the beauty industry is nominative, which may be implicitly combined with other functions, namely, compressive-informative, generalizing, differentiating, diagnostic, axiological, expressive, euphemistic or dysphemistic. The study revealed that despite variations in means of expression, the main purpose and meaning of the function remain constant, allowing analytical and synthetic languages to perform the same communicative tasks.
