Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n

The article investigates the process of desemanticization of the modal meaning within the sein + zu + Infinitiv construction in modern German. The relevance of the study stems from the need to re-evaluate traditional views on this construction and identify its emerging discursive functions beyond pure modality. The scientific novelty of the research lies in a comprehensive comparative analysis of the construction\u2019s behavior in literary and scientific discourses, based on an empirical corpus of over 2,000 contexts. The findings reveal a significant stylistic divergence: In literary discourse, desemanticization serves a presentative-accentuating function. Quantitative analysis proves that in 80% of cases, the construction introduces a new thematic object (Rheme) into the reader’s sensory field, thereby losing its voluntative autonomy. In scientific discourse, desemanticization facilitates metadiscursive navigation. The construction transforms into an asemantic syntactic template performing a cataphoric role and serving as a hedging tool to mitigate authorial categoricalness. The objective indicators of the construction\u2019s functional \u201cfossilization\u201d include its syntactic coordination with adjectives and pleonastic usage with external modal operators (sollen, m\u00fcssen) and future tense forms (Futur I). The author concludes that desemanticization is a systematic process of grammaticalization that turns the construction into a universal tool for narrative objectification.<\/p>\n
