Abstract

This article examines the lingua-pragmatic potential of French television news discourse of the illustrative type. It identifies the functions and means of creating lingua-pragmatic impact in the speech of speakers (studio presenter, reporter, and event participants) based on their discursive status, as well as the method of obtaining and the presence or absence of evaluation of information in their speech. Particular attention is paid to the authors’ use of pragmatically marked linguistic means (evaluative and modal constructions), which allow them not only to solve various communication problems (objectifying information, obscuring evaluation, expressing various types of evaluation, etc.) but also to create a multi-focal picture of the event in their message.
